Awards

The Society for Analytic Philosophy awards five individual prizes, partly in cooperation:

  1. the Frege Award. With it the GAP honours a German-speaking philosopher every three years for outstanding achievements in the field of analytic philosophy.
  2. the Wolfgang Stegmüller Award. Every three years it is awarded to three laureates, usually for dissertations and »second dissertations« (Habilitationen). The award is endowed with a total of €12,000.
  3. the De Gruyter Award, in cooperation with the publisher de Gruyter. It is awarded every three years for contributions in the areas of analytic philosophy of mind and ontology/metaphysics, in most cases dissertations, MA theses or other qualification works. The award is endowed with €2,000.
  4. the Essay Award, in cooperation with the philosophical journal Grazer Philosophische Studien. It is awarded annually for up to three essays submitted by students. The essays are published in Grazer Philosophische Studien.
  5. in 2015, and for the first time, the GAP presented a Prize Question on a socially relevant issue of particular topicality. In this way, the public debate shall be informed by philosophical arguments. The prize question is addressed to philosophers of all levels of qualification (from students to professors) and it is awarded with prizes of €3,000, €2,000, and €1,000.
